Brainfence

Privacy policy

Effective October 26, 2026

Brainfence is a task and habit app that blocks distracting apps and websites until your tasks are done. It's made by Nick Reynolds ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Brainfence apps for Android, Windows and Mac, and this website. Questions go to support@brainfence.online.

In short: we store your account and what you put in the app, so it syncs between your devices. What Brainfence watches in order to block things (which app is open, which website you're on, your live location) stays on your device. We don't sell your data, show ads or use analytics or tracking tools.

What we store, and why

Your account

Your email address and password, to sign you in and to send account emails such as the sign-up confirmation. Passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider; we can't read them.

What you put in the app

Your tasks, routines and their steps, shopping lists, task completions, blocking rules (including the apps and websites you choose to block), journal entries and notes, contemplations, reports and their answers, and your setup guide progress. We store these so they sync between your devices and survive reinstalling the app.

Places and proof for tasks

What stays on your device

To block things, Brainfence has to watch what's happening on your device. None of the following is stored on our servers or sent to anyone:

Brainfence doesn't read anything else on your screen, and doesn't type, tap or change anything for you.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. We use these service providers, only to run Brainfence:

If you install Brainfence from Google Play, Google's own privacy policy covers what Play collects. We'd only disclose your data otherwise if the law required it.

Security

Your data travels encrypted (HTTPS), and the database only lets your signed-in account read or change your data.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

We keep your data until you delete it or your account. You can delete your account, and everything in it, from the app at any time; see Delete your account, which also explains how to ask us to do it if you can't use the app. Deleted data is removed from our database immediately, and from our providers' backups when those expire, within 30 days.

You can also email us to get a copy of your data or have it corrected.

Children

Brainfence isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its date. If a change affects what we collect or share, we'll also tell you in the app before it applies.
